About Banaras

Banaras (Varanasi) one of the oldest living cities on earth, situated on the bank of the holi river Ganges, in eastern part of India, has traditionally been a seat of Indian culture, religion, and Textiles and crafts, over several centuries.

Banaras GmbH was incorporated by Mr. Alok Kumar’s  family hailing from Banaras, having manufacturing and trading experience of over 100 years.  They are known throughout the region for their weaving and designing centres, mingling traditional qualities of silk and other fibres, and various hand weaving and printing techniques with the contemporary trends and forms of the western world.

Tourist and designers from all over the world have visited the holy city over the centuries and have patronised the art and culture of the place.

Banaras GmbH, led by Mr. Kumar and his family, thus keep alive the rich and growing demand of such Indian products through their long standing establishment in Germany –  serving the cause of Indian tradition and demand of the European consumer.
